Recipe management
Recipe management is the practice of documenting, distributing, versioning, and updating drink recipes so every barista makes every drink the same way, every time. Modern recipe management uses digital tools that push updates to every barista's phone instantly with version history.
Recipe management has four components: documentation (every recipe written down), distribution (every barista has access), versioning (changes tracked, old versions accessible), and adherence (you verify recipes are actually being followed). Most cafés do the first; few do all four.
Without recipe management, recipes drift across baristas, shifts, and locations. Each barista 'improves' the drink slightly; the cumulative effect over 6 months is that nothing tastes the same as it did. Customers don't articulate this — they just stop coming as often. Drift is a silent business killer.
Modern tools (Brewspace) handle recipe management with mobile-first access, version control, and integration with daily checklists. The bar of entry is low — even single-shop cafés benefit from proper recipe management once they have 2+ baristas.
