Cappuccino
A cappuccino is a small espresso drink with equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and dense milk foam — typically 6oz total. The dense foam is the defining feature: it forms a peaked dome on top and holds its shape for the entire drink.
Standard build: 18g double shot, 6oz cup, whole milk steamed with longer stretching (2–3 seconds) to create denser foam, poured to create a peaked dome of foam on top that holds its shape. Free-pour latte art (heart or simple rosetta) is standard, though the dense foam limits pattern complexity.
Cappuccino is structurally distinct from a latte (which has minimal foam) or a flat white (which has only microfoam). The dense foam matters because it slows the cooling of the milk (insulating effect) and creates a different mouthfeel — bouncier, more textural.
Traditional Italian cappuccinos are smaller (5oz) and consumed only before noon. American specialty cafés serve them all day in 6–8oz cups. Both interpretations are valid; just understand which one your customers expect when they order.
